As you can see...added a bunch of stuff to the mix. believe it or not, thats just one brick instanced a shitload of times. I will be addng some more stuff to the wagon ledge...maybe some bread, a chest...few bottles, but after that....no more meshes.
Will start texturing on sunday...planning to put everything on a 2048 targa...any tips for maximizzing texture space?
cheers boss.

looks fantastic man, some people walked by as i was lookin at it and made some very positive comments. i think your pretty much done.
as for texturing, i hope your not gonna stick to just one 2048. i would say you seperate some elements and do 2048s for them.
make one for the cobblestones, maybe 2 for the different types.
a 2048 for props. crates, flags jugs, lamps and all.
The wagon u could do a 2048 with all the elements and maybe some side small textures for tileables like noise, plaster walls, ect.
or........
you seperate everything by type of element.
make a 1024 wood texture that would be used for all things wooden. barrels, supports, branches, stairs ect.
a 512 of flat tilable metal that you can use to cover larger metal surfaces.
and so on..
My advice is that you go all custom. dont limit yourself on texture limits. try and pack things into 2048's and reuse when you can. (like dont make a unique texture for each wheel or jar or brick)
but make this model look sweet above optimized. so make a nice 1024 x 256 texture for the lamp post. a 512 for the milk jug a 512 for a crate, 512 for a barrel. make it look custom with nice custom dirt that will match the model. after your done if you want to present your textures well combine all the small ones into a 2048 and make it look neat.
so whatever way you choose to go keep a few things in mind.
- dont limit texture amaounts and size
- Make sure all the resolution on every object is the same (very important) it looks bad when one thing is super sharp and another thing is blurry.
- use photos for textures and paint in approprate wear and tear, custom to a mesh.
- make sure all the texturing looks like its made for the model. if something should have a rust stain then it damn well better
cheers
